After you have clearly defined your goal, the next question is when? This has a big impact on the number of times you should run per week.
For example, if you are trying to complete a marathon next year, then you can training runs for a year. Start slow, and increase gradually.
If you are unsure of what you would like to achieve with your running, then take the time to reflect and decide when you want to achieve it. This will help determine if you should run a mile once a week or more.
If you work full-time or have a family to look, then be realistic. It is important that you don’t set your goals too high. Otherwise you will only leave yourself feeling disappointed.
We live in the world of “Think Big”, always dreams and so and so .The problem with this approach is if your goals are nearing ridiculous, even your brain wont believe it. It will turn on its special mode, the one that says “why start, when we know we cant finish it”.
Slowly But Surely
Push yourself in gently. If you haven’t run for a considerable amount of time, then don’t be too eager. Running involves using all kinds of muscles that you only use when you run. Running to far too soon will leave you feeling fatigued. Or something worst, like an injury.
Follow a simple plan. A good way to go about this is to run just a short distance, at a pace you feel you can cope with – three times a week. Try this for a few weeks, and you will be amazed at how much better you feel.
However, don’t run two days in a row. The theory states that you need to have sufficient rest days for your body to re-cooperate.
